The meaning of the photo is addiction to drugs, which is a complicated and serious problem that can have serious physical, emotional, and social effects on the person and on society as a whole. This image represents the feelings that drugs create in people; they can bring up a broad variety of feelings in people, including anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, and low self-esteem. People who feel this way might find it hard to get help and keep good relationships with other people. The way the hands are holding on to the table shows desperation, trying to hold on so as not to fall.
We used a slow shutter speed to represent the tiredness and the loss of feeling that drugs can cause. The intention of the photo is to create consciousness about how drugs can end the lives of people; it portrays the feeling of being lost and seeing everything blurry, which was key to taking the picture at a slow shutter speed. The techniques used while taking the photo were: to focus on the pills and hands and not on the face. We started using 10 lamps. But then we realized it was too much light, so we lowered it to 7. Also, we took the photo at a certain distance so it looks more impactful, and the camera was at a height higher than the table to be able to take the photo from a higher angle. This picture serves as a timely and important reminder that addiction is a serious problem and that all of us need to work toward developing a deep understanding of the issue.
